Disney's Studios of the 20th Century were scheduled to * finally * bring to the big screen Josh Boone 's super-horror feature, The New Mutants on April 3rd, but of course those plans were changed due to everything in the world at present. Despite rumours that the film would go directly to VOD instead, today a new * theatrical * date was announced.

On 28 August 2020, the New Mutants will unleash their powers at theatres.

That is, of course, provided that theatres are opened by then. At the moment, the film is at the mercy of the COVID-19 pandemic, which could well keep the theatres closed all summer long. And given the troubled history of the film with the changes in the release date let's say that another delay wouldn't surprise us exactly ...

"Five young mutants, who just discover their abilities while being kept in a secret location against their will, struggle to escape their past sins and save themselves."

Described as a "original horror thriller in an isolated hospital where the psychiatric surveillance of a group of young mutants is held," the New Mutants is a film which fans have waited for years. Fox first planned to develop the film in 2015, the project being released in 2016. Originally, filming ended in September 2017, and then trouble began. In January 2018, Fox moved the release date back to February 2019, allowing Deadpool 2 to run from another Marvel film on Fox without contest. Months later, The New Mutants confronted similar problems and were delayed again to make sure that Dark Phoenix, another X-Men movie, did not compete.
