Sony Denies PS5 October Release Date Reveals branding for First Party Games at PlayStation Studios

Gamers looking for any news on the upcoming PlayStation 5 were excited to see a Japanese job listing revealing the release date of October 2020.

Nibel found the job listing on Twitter, and had the following job description, after a quick translation by Google:

"We will handle the trial purchase of PlayStation hardware products. We will select the best suppliers from domestic and overseas partners, and in cooperation with the design department and quality assurance department, we will adjust the hardware parts and production capacity specifications to create PlayStation 5 to be released in October 2020."

This has led many gamers to believe the next-gen console would arrive sooner than expected. Sony previously only announced a release window for Holiday 2020.

Unfortunately, that optimism would not last as Sony denied the release date of October 2020 on Japanese publication Famitsu's job listing. They also stated that the date on the recruitment site was an error.

Sony would go on to reveal a new house in its gaming division, with that disappointment out of the way: PlayStation Studios.

As first reported, PlayStation Studios will be a new branding that will appear for all PlayStation's first-party games including The Last of Us, God of War, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and LittleBigPlanet.

When first-party games come out for the PS5--whenever that's - gamers see that branding is new. You won't see it in Horizon Zero Dawn's PC launch or in The Last of Us 2.

"The strength of the titles from our studios has been stronger than ever over the past few years - and even over the past decade," said Eric Lempel, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment at "We've been thinking about how we're uniting all these great games under one brand, and the real purpose of that is to make the consumer understand that when they see this brand, they're getting ready for a robust, innovative, deep experience they've come to expect from games coming from PlayStation.

Not much is known about the PS5 since Sony has chosen gamers to get piecemeal information. The specs and controller were revealed in late 2019 while in March Sony held an online presentation to explain how the console works. Originally intended for the Game Developers Conference (GDC), this presentation was canceled but due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fans still await a tough release date and a price.
