Two Bollywood biggies, Sooryavanshi by Akshay Kumar and 83 by Ranveer Singh, had been postponed due to coronavirus outbreak. Shibashish Sarkar, who is Reliance Entertainment's Group CEO (distributor of both films), has said they will be the first to arrive once the lockdown has been lifted. Speaking of Sooryavanshi's and '83's postponement, Shibashish Sarkar told Mumbai Mirror, "It's unfortunate and depressing that the films couldn't arrive on schedule, but we are grateful that we managed to hold Sooryavanshi back a week before its release. Otherwise it would have been a debacle, suddenly enforced with the lockdown.
He also revealed that both of the films have yet to complete the post-production work. "We wonder how and what to do if this situation continues for the next 3-6 months. We have seven-eight working days left on Sooryavanshi and at least one month's VFX work on '83. Once things start working, completing both of the films will be the first priority. Only after that will we decide on the release, "says the Group CEO. When asked if he is considered a digital release for these films, he replied," No, it is clear to all of us, including the actors and directors, that we want to keep both films until normal returns and release them theatrically because they are big screen experiences
When asked about the losses incurred as a result of the delay of these films, he replied, "But these are big films and when they are released, we will earn enough revenue to recover the extra cost of holding back." He further assured, "Once normalcy returns, Sooryavanshi and '83 will be the first two films to arrive." Well, this news will certainly bring a huge smile to the faces of all the cinema.
