Developer DICE has confirmed the next Battlefield game coming in 2021. In a statement to IGN, the Swedish studio said it's "focused on the future of Battlefield" for a new game set to be released in 2021, with support for Star Wars: Battlefront II and Battlefield V winding down. Since Star Wars the studio divided its efforts between the two series: Battlefront back in 2015.

This new game of Battlefield was announced in October 2019, when publisher Electronic Arts said the game would be launched in the 2022 fiscal year of the company, which runs from April 2021 to March 2022. Now we know a launch period more specific - sometimes in 2021.

EA has not shared any concrete details about the new Battlefield game, but it did tease that the title will be "targeting new innovation that will be enabled by next-gen platforms." By the time this new Battlefield game is released in 2021, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will be on the market, so you can probably expect it to launch on those consoles as well as on PC.

EA said the release of this new Battlefield game will take advantage of their larger install base in 2021 instead of 2020, when the new consoles release. "Bringing out Battlefield [in 2020], where the new console base is fairly small, doesn't really give justice to the potential of the title, and so that's part of our driver in moving the title into fiscal 22," said EA management.

DICE has studios in Stockholm, Sweden and California, in Los Angeles. Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella is now running the DICE LA studio, as part of his recent promotion's expanded responsibilities.
