It would be a bit of an understatement to say that the past few years have been interesting for director / writer James Gunn. A year after his latest film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Galaxy Vol Guardians. 2, released in theatres, Disney cut ties with Gunn after it came to light that between 2008 and 2012 he posted several tweets that joked on a variety of sensitive subjects including rape, pedophilia and child abuse.

Not only has he been fired from directing the Galaxy's third Guardians, but he has also been removed as a key figure working on Marvel's line of space-centered superhero films. Last year, though, things turned around when Disney restarted its relationship with Gunn. He was re-established as the Galaxy Vol Guardians Director. 3, which he will begin to work on after wrapping up production at The Suicide Squad, and now he is back in Marvel's good graces.

He has also been quite active on social media recently, and the other day, as reported by, took part in an Instagram question-and-answer session where he was asked what was his favorite superhero film. And might just surprise you with the answer.

If you were banking on him picking one of many, many movies from the MCU, you're going to be a little disappointed, as he chose Spider-Man in the end: Into the Spider-Verse. And while it may not be from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, seeing why he chose it is still easy.

It was, after all, one of the most popular superhero films of the past few years, winning over the hearts and minds of both critics and fans. We're not quite sure what the exact reason behind James Gunn's pick was, but if you've seen the movie for yourself, you'll probably be able to relate with his choice.
