Google Pixel 4a Delayed release date, new report says

Google's next smartphone will be the Google Pixel 4a mid-range and our expectation about releasing it seems to have just slipped. It's highly anticipated and has a lot to do with it – even outdoing the recent iPhone SE, as you can read here.

It looked as though we knew quite a few things about the new phone last month, including a release price ($399), a date it would go on sale. That appeared to be less than two weeks away from May 22

Caschys Blog reported today though that it believes the release date has slipped. Well, it's not really slipped, since Google didn't announce the date of May 22. Caschys Blog bases this on an internal listing by Vodafone, one of the country's carriers.

The German blog now reports that the expected deadline for delivery is June 5. As 9to5Google reports, the site used a similar technique to successfully predict the Pixel 3a's launch date last year.

Of course, when the Pixel 4a goes on sale internationally, the German availability may not reflect – though by the same token it's pretty hard to imagine Google first selling its own phone outside of the US. So, if the German date turns out to be correct, then I think it's fair to assume the American release will be at or before the same time.

The anticipated date, May 22, seemed timed to hit shortly after Google's I / O conference. Since that was cancelled, Google didn't suddenly need to be tied up to that date.

Another event will be up for June 3 in the Google calendar. That is when Google is launching Android's public beta 11. So, might Google plan to unveil the phone at the same event as the next-gen software? It's possible, although focusing on the latest Android 10 handset is a slightly inconsistent message, and then talking about things that will come later.

Pixel phones, on the other hand, are always the first to get the latest OS, so it might work to combine the announcements into one event, with the phone released 48 hours after unveiling.
