Giorgio Chiellini admires Uruguay forward Luis Suarez for biting him during a heated match

Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini, he said in his autobiography, admires Uruguay's forward Luis Suarez for biting him during a heated World Cup game in 2014.

Suarez, who escaped punishment during the game, was later banned for four months plus nine internationals - but Chiellini said he did not grudge against him.

"Malice is part of football, I wouldn't call it unlawful. You have to be smart to get past a rival, "the captain of Juventus said in the book" Io, Giorgio.

"I admire his cunning," he added. "If he had lost that, he would have become an ordinary forward."

In the 2014 World Cup Chiellini said nothing weird happened that day.

"For most of the match, I marked (Edinson) Cavani, another guy that's hard to mark and that we didn't hold back against," he said.

"I all of a sudden noticed I was bitten in the shoulder. It just happened, but in hand-to-hand combat, that's his strategy and, if I may say so, it's mine too. He and I are alike, and I like to take on such attackers.

At the time of the incident, the match was goalless but minutes after the incident, Uruguay snatched a 1-0 win that took them through to the round of 16 at the expense of Italy.
