On Tuesday, Elon Musk's SpaceX said it raised $346.2 million in a new funding round, a day before it launches two American astronauts to the International Space Station.

The launch of its first crewed mission from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Wednesday by the private rocket company will end the nine-year hiatus in human spaceflight of the U.S. space agency.

The launch, to which President Donald Trump will be attending, is crucial for Musk, SpaceX and NASA.

A successful flight will mark a milestone in the quest to produce reusable spacecraft which can make it more affordable to space travel. Musk is SpaceX's founding and chief executive officer, and Tesla Inc's CEO.

The company has raised more than $567 million including the latest round and is valued at around $36 billion, according to a CNBC report.
