Next year, Spaniard Carlos Sainz will make a dream move to Ferrari, while Australian Daniel Ricciardo will take his place at McLaren. The Formula One driver carousel will take another great spin on Thursday and will be back in the 2020 season.

Ferrari said Sainz who, together with the young Monasque Charles Leclerc, replaces world champion Sebastian Vettel four times in the sport's most glamorous Team, had signed up for 2021 and 2022.

Vettel's departure was announced on Tuesday, with the next move uncertain, so far stalled by the COVID-19 pandemic at the end of a season.

"Five seasons ago, Carlos proved to be extremely talented and demonstrated that he obtains the technical skills and right features to make him an ideal fit for our family," said Mattia Binotto, CEO of Ferrari.

This move also ends with speculations on the future of Lewis Hamilton, whereas the 35-year-old Briton will now remain at Mercedes while chasing the seventh title to match the record of Michael Schumacher.

After McLaren, the former world champions he rejected in 2018 when he left Red Bull, Ricciardo will leave Renault.

"Signing Daniel is another step on our long-term plan and alongside Lando will bring the team an exciting new dimension," said Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, announcing a multi-annual arrangement.

The Australian will be the experienced man along with 20-year-old Briton Lando Norris, seven times the winner with Red Bull, with McLaren also moving from Renault to Mercedes in 2021.

"Goodbye friend! It was just a year, but it was a pleasure, "Norris told Sainz in a Twitter post. "We had a few good laughs and made a couple of memories. Give it your whole mate and this year let's give the send it off it deserves.
